Not even snowy weather can keep Montana State University’s soccer, lacrosse, and rugby athletes off the field—not since Lambert Field opened. Its artificial turf was a strategic choice, made in part by student advocacy, that renders the NCAA-regulation field usable for year-round practice while nearby fields are still covered in snow. State-of-the-art field lights surround its perimeter, creating even light quality for high-performance play and extending the playable hours each day. The accompanying spectator building is indoor-outdoor and serves as a landscape feature taking cues from the region’s agrarian typologies. Vertical steel columns gently support a wood roof structure, which spans the corrugated-metal support building. In the warmer months, spectators can enjoy distant views of the Bridger Mountain Range while lounging on the adjacent grassy berm.
